Who we are:  AWANA is a non-denominational, evangelical, Bible-based club for kids ages 3 thru 12.  The local Dubuque club is supported by several churches in Dubuque, including Asbury Community Chapel and Arbor Oaks Bible Chapel.  It is supported by many students and staff of Emmaus Bible College.

WE BELIEVE that the Bible is God's Word, telling us of His love for sinful mankind as shown in the gift of His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.  Through faith in Christ, anyone can be saved from judgement and receive eternal life (Holy Bible - John 3:16, Ephesians 2:8, Romans 10:9, and many more -  The full official AWANA doctrinal statement can be found at www.awana.com).  We teach Bible basics and a love for Bible study, and strongly encourage children to attend a local church faithfully, besides reading and studying the Bible on their own or with their family.  We teach young people to compare any teaching they hear to what the Bible says.

Most of the children's leaders are students or staff of Emmaus Bible College.  Some  are elementary education students, while others are studying Bible, Youth ministries, Music, Intercultural studies, or Computer Information Systems.  Many have grown up in the AWANA program and are dedicated to reaching children with the gospel.

What we do: The Cubbies have their own program of games, crafts, and Bible lessons.
For Sparks and T&T, each evening starts with the Pledge of Allegiance, prayer, and an enthusiastic recitation of 2 Timothy 2:15 "Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the Word of truth"

The Sparks then head off to 'handbook time' where they recite the versed they have studied during the previous week, and get to know their leaders.  At the same time, the T&T'ers have a time of games with some healthy competition, earning points for their team's color.

After the game and handbook times for each group, they all get together for some great SINGNIG and an informative and entertaining Bible lesson.

Where we meet: The Emmaus Bible College gym - 2570 Asbury Road - near the corner of Asbury and Chaney roads.  Entrance on Asbury Road, then follow the road to the right around to the back parking lot.

Cubbies

Cubbies

cubbiescubbies
Ages: 2 years before kindergarten
(potty-trained, please) - usually 3 to 4 year-oldsElephant, Lamb, and Cubbie

The Awana club for preschoolers is built on two premises:

• Young children can and should receive spiritual training.
• Home is the primary place for spiritual training.

Our preschool program meets these needs through …

Fun – and lots of it!
Awana is fun with a purpose – to reach and train kids for Jesus Christ. Games, puppets, crafts, awards and other activities transform our preschool program into a lively weekly experience where fun and learning go hand in hand.

Friendly characters and leaders
Cubbie Bear, Luv E. Lamb, Ern E. Elephant, Zip E. Zebra and Gigi Giraffe take preschoolers on a thrilling journey through God’s Word. Caring, committed volunteer leaders nurture your children spiritually as Christian role models and teachers.

Foundational teaching
Bible-centered handbooks and club activities help your children begin to build a solid understanding of the basics of Christianity at an early age.

Family involvement
Cubbies is unique because it supports parents as the primary source of spiritual nurturing. By working directly with their child on the weekly handbook lessons, parents become active participants in their child’s spiritual development. Along the way, unsaved parents with kids in the program are introduced to God and His plan of salvation
. Your kids will reap immediate benefits from their involvement in this exciting program. Just look at what they will learn after only two years:

• Approximately 55 memory verses – and up to 120 additional verses if they complete our extra-credit curriculum
• Key basic truths about God, Jesus Christ, salvation and the Bible
• The gospel message and their need to trust Christ as Savior

Sparks
Sparky
Ages: Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd grades
The Awana club for children in kindergarten through second grade builds on the material taught in our preschool club. The aim of the curriculum is to take youngsters a step deeper into God’s Word while giving unsaved boys and girls regular opportunities to hear the gospel and come to faith in Jesus Christ. After being immersed in solid foundational teaching at the preschool level, boys and girls frequently come to an understanding of their need to trust Christ as their personal Savior while in Sparks.

Immersing kids in God’s Word
The Sparks program is firmly grounded in Scripture. The three handbooks feature:

  • Basic truths about God, Jesus Christ, salvation and the Bible
  • An increased emphasis on Scripture memory over our preschool materials. In three years, a child will learn and review 68 verses, many of which cover salvation and key Christian doctrine
  • Clear and consistent presentation of the gospel message
T and T
Truth and Training - 3rd thru 6th grade
The name Truth & Training reflects the passion of Awana to teach third- through sixth-grade boys and girls the truth of God’s Word and to train them to follow Christ in their daily lives. Our goal is that many of today’s young people will become tomorrow’s church leaders. T&T is the program that trains the leaders of tomorrow — today.

Evangelism and discipleship go hand in hand in our third- through sixth-grade program. By the time a child has completed T&T, he will have:

  • Learned and reviewed approximately 310 verses
  • Studied dozens of passages from the Old and New Testament
  • Regularly heard and read the gospel message
  • Discovered the Bible’s response to questions like “How does God want me to live my life?” and memorized verses to back up these answers
  • Completed missions projects that help him see the world through God’s eyes.

Junior Varsity Ages: 7-9th grades

From mature Christians to unchurched nonbelievers, seventh- and eighth-graders have wide-ranging spiritual, emotional, social and physical needs. One approach cannot fit them all.

Meeting young people at ALL levels
Jr. Varsity, our ministry for junior-high students, meets the needs of youth at three different levels.

  • One level (Come See) targets unsaved youth.
  • A second level (Come Follow) helps young or nominal believers grow in their faith.
  • Another level (Come Serve) trains committed teenagers for leadership, ministry service and a deeper walk with God.

Young people are given opportunities to put their faith in action by getting involved in service projects and serving their church. One such program plugs youth into assistant leadership roles in younger-age Awana clubs.
